Things to do...

Take time off and relax, spend your days soaking in the
tranquil atmosphere, or set out to discover the
surrounding beauty on offer in Northumberland.

We are nestled within a stones throw from Northumberland National Park and all of its beauty. The park is situated in Coquetdale, on the River Coquet, also known as 'Walking Country'. Coquetdale offers an abundance of fantastic walks for all levels, as well as being a haven for cycling, fishing, golfing, horse riding and also, rock climbing.

Only a short drive from Rothbury Riverside you can find the Cheviot Hills, Alnwick (including the fantastic castle and walled gardens, Wallington Hall and not forgetting the Northumberland National Park and its fascinating and captivating abundance of wildlife.

Cragside House is 'the palace of modern magician' inventor Lord Armstrong with a garden of breathtaking drama whatever the season. The area is an excellent central point for exploring the historic - and some very dramatic - castles, stately homes and the stunning Northumberland coastline that many say is its most attractive feature, especially the long, un-crowded sandy beaches. The 40 mile stretch of coast from Amble to Berwick-upon-Tweed has been officially designated as both a "Heritage Coast" and an "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty". For that sheer sense of open space, Northumberland is simply unrivalled in England.

Just get in the car, jump on a bike or get your walking boots on (and don't forget your camera!) for a truly magnificent day out. There are also many attractive fishing villages and little seaside resorts to visit. Hadrian's Wall and the Scottish Borders are within easy reach, and the bustling city of Newcastle, with its famous Metro Centre (the largest shopping centre of its type in Europe) is only 45 miles away.

And for other leisure, shopping and tourist attractions or just for something to do on a rainy day, there's something for everyone - the Sea Life Centre at Tynemouth, Centre for Life in Newcastle upon Tyne, the Hancock Museum, many galleries and museums and in Alnwick, Barter Books, one of the largest antiquarian bookstores in the UK.
